Dr. Lyons – Introduction to my blog

I’d like to welcome you to my blog. I’ve been in practice now since 2005, and in the past 13 years I’ve never had a blog. In deciding to start this, I know what I don’t want. I don’t want another blog where I take a healthcare topic, provide an overview, and then make treatment recommendations. There are thousands of such blogs.

I want the focus of this blog to be my experience; to draw from the observations, opinions, and even theories I’ve developed over the years. Tricks of the trade, tips I’ve picked up from others, even unique ways I’ve worked with patients towards improving their health. It hardly ever works to simply tell someone they need to lose weight. I’ve certainly tried. However….Ask a young father if he would like to see his daughter graduate high school? College? Walk her down the aisle? This gets him thinking not in terms of his waistline or blood pressure, but in terms of his future. And what that future will look like.

As such, when I create a new blog, I will not be providing mountains of references or a bibliography. I know what will happen if I do….I’ll end up over-analyzing, over-complicating things. It will take all the joy and fun out of doing a blog and turning into in something painful and frustrating. I’ll include a reference or two or website links to follow when I feel they are necessary or will enhance understanding, but I don’t want it to be the focus. This may open me up to criticisms and fact-finding that contradicts what I’m saying and I understand this. I’ll gladly engage anyone willing to debate in a respectful manner and will be willing to reconsider my ideas and opinion.

All this being said, I hope you enjoy my blog. I love questions and will do my best to answer them. If they are something that will add to the topic, I’ll post it as an update so that everyone can see it. Thank you.
